The new UHMWPE plant represents another milestone in the company's North American growth strategy. #Polyolefin

Braskem America (Philadelphia, USA) was very close to the original plan, putting its new UTEC UHMWPE plant in La Porte, Texas into production in mid-January. The output of the new plant has not yet been disclosed, reflecting another milestone investment in the company's North American growth strategy. It enables the company to better serve North American customers and serve European customers through exports.

As reported last year, Braskem has strengthened its Pittsburgh Innovation and Technology Center and added advanced UHMWPE R&D capabilities to support the launch of UTEC production and low friction coefficient in the United States. This self-lubricating, high-strength, light-weight machinable material is used in semi-finished products in many industries. It is 8 times lighter than steel and 10 times longer than HDPE.

New additives can improve transparency, stiffness, HDT and processing speed, which brings new packaging opportunities for PP.

This new series of transparent engineering thermoplastics shines for the first time in the extrusion field, but now injection molders are learning how to process these amorphous resins into optical and medical components.

In the past few years, major innovations have occurred in the field of polypropylene nucleation.
